Volunteer Appreciation

"A pessimist, they say, sees a glass of water as being half empty; an optimist sees the same glass has half full.  But a giving person sees a glass of water and starts looking for someone who might be thirsty." - G. Donald Gale

Bill Welcer, A Fantastic Volunteer!

Bill Welcer has been a volunteer with the Housing Specialist staff since June of 2009.  He has recently accepted a position with Providence Elder Place on the Transportation Program, so his volunteer duties with us will be changing.  We wish Bill the best of luck.  He has been a wonderful volunteer and has helped our clients tremendously.  He will continue volunteering with Northwest Pilot Project but with different duties.  Currently he is training for his new position at Providence Elder Place.

Bill was one of the first volunteers with the Medical Advocacy Project, a very successful program where our clients who have health concerns and are without insurance can have an appointment with a doctor at a free medical clinic.  The great success of this project is due to Bill’s impact on it.

Bill is unflappable.  Being a volunteer on the Medical Advocacy Project can mean being in some unpredictable situations.  Bill would take the clients to the doctor or social worker, help lessen their anxiety and advocate for the clients with the medical staff.  Many times our clients are not able to do this on their own.  Once Bill had to transport a client to an emergency room and another time had to take a client to an emergency appointment at Devers Eye Clinic.  Bill does this with ease, professionalism and a good spirit.  Our Housing Specialists rely on him and trust him completely.

Some of Bill’s other experiences are helping clients with applications to apply for apartments, setting up kitchens, picking up furniture, helping clients move to a new apartment, going to appointments with clients, taking clients to see apartments and transporting clients to our events.

We will miss seeing Bill as frequently as we have been.  We wish him a rich, rewarding future!  Thanks, Bill!
