Oregon Legislature’s plan for $200 Million to Support Emergency Housing and Homelessness

Gov. Kotek’s first call to action in office was declaring a homelessness state of emergency, calling for $200 million to move Oregonians off of the streets or keep them housed. This bill will not only assist our houseless neighbors into affordable homes across the state of Oregon, but will assist nonprofits in staffing qualified individuals to do the emotional labor, while also providing additional funding for rent assistance so organizations like NWPP can continue to work with our senior clients directly to get them into safe and affordable housing.

NWPP’s Executive Director, Laura Golino de Lovato, offers insight into this pressing issue in this article from Oregonlive.com. It also highlights two NWWP staff members, Olivia and Marilee, who tirelessly advocate for their clients each and every day.

This is a huge step for Oregon in its initial stages of helping to end homelessness and providing support to our houseless neighbors. We applaud Governor Kotek for prioritizing this issue and her support to the cause.
